Kara S. Rice is a self-taught visual artist based in Prince George’s County, MD; a suburb located within the DC Metropolitan area. Art has always been a part of her life in one form or another. Rice’s passion for painting grew and matured in the spring of 2013 when she completed her first painting called The Stormy Sunrise, It Will Die and I Will be With You My Love; it was named after one of her favorite songs Cybertronic Purgatory by Janelle Monae. She primarily works with acrylic and creates dynamic mixed media pieces. Her mixed media pieces also include different elements such as newspaper and magazine articles, her drawings from old sketchbooks and previous paintings, and ripped dollar bills.  She aims to express different thoughts, feelings, and emotions that she has personally encountered; and what she wants others to encounter in life. Rice views herself as a vessel, letting the art take control of what needs to be created. Her God-given gift has taken her on a journey that she will forever be grateful for and it has only just begun.
